Cosmopolitan cocktail
The cosmopolitan cocktail is a light and fruity cocktail, often served in a martini glass.
The cosmopolitan cocktail has been in existence since the 1970s, although it was not until the late 1980s that the internationally recognised drink became famous, when it was made in Manhatten. The cosmopolitan is one of the most famous cocktails of the past 20 years
Many people were involved in making the cosmopolitan cocktail popular by selling it in their bars and some adding extra ingredients for their own take on the new cocktail. These people included; Neil Murray, John Caine, Cheryl Cook and Melissa Huffsmith.
The recipe for the cosmopolitan cocktail is a classic ‘sour family’ cocktail, the spirit is Vodka, the sour is lime juice and the sweet is Cointreau, for other variations see our cosmopolitan cocktail recipes.
In the 1990s the cosmopolitan cocktail became very popular due to its frequent appearance in the US hit series ‘Sex and the city’.
